William (Bill) Penn Routson,
February 8, 1937 - May 21, 2026
William Penn Routson, 89, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on May 21, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on February 8, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to William J. Routson and Frances Evelyn Penn. Bill graduated from Scott High School and completed one year at the University of Toledo before joining the U. S. Army. He was stationed in Kassel, Germany. After his service, he became an independent sales representative for various small sporting goods companies.
Bill was known for loving life, and he was always up for an adventure. His hobbies included volleyball, Euchre, fishing, boating, motorcycling and camping. He was always ready to help where needed, too. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Toledo, where he served as an usher.
He loved his family which included his pets, and his extended family of good neighbors and friends.
Bill is survived by:
● Diane, his wife
● Daughter, Carrie Durkin and Art
● Daughter, Abigail (Abby) Calegari and Shawn :
● Four granddaughters: Lindsay Lawrence, Kelsey Lawrence, Alex Calegari, and Grace Calegari
● Sister, Sally Freeman and Bill
● Nieces and nephews
Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother.
There will be no funeral. The family will have a remembrance celebration at a later date.
In Bill’s memory, please consider donating to the Toledo Humane Society; Foundation Park Alzheimer’s Care Center or a charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to offer a very special thank you to Bill’s special caregiver, Alexis Vance who helped care for him over the past two years and became like family. She could always make him smile.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice,the Toledo VA, and all the caregivers, for their support and care.
Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." [1]
