Mary (Reed) Fischer

With her daughter and granddaughter by her side, Mary peacefully gained her wings on June 23, 2026, just two days after celebrating her 99th birthday. She was surrounded by the love of her large family and fittingly, handfuls of Werther’s candies.

Mary was born June 21, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to Norman and Philomene Reed. She worked for more than 20 years as an Optical Technician at E.B Brown Optical in Toledo, retiring from the company not once, but twice.

Mary spent the last 30 years of her life living in Perrysburg. She called Abundant Life of Perrysburg home and was the longest and oldest resident. She was a member of St. Rose parish and faithfully attended Sunday Mass with her best friend, Barb.

Mary loved to do things that allowed her to be creative. She enjoyed singing, dancing, cake decorating, and china painting. She was an active member of the Perrysburg Senior Choir, traveling throughout the city to perform. She loved to dance and was an avid Square Dancer. First as a member of the May Dancers and later as the founder of her own Square-Dancing group. She even designed and made many of her own square dance costumes! When she could no longer dance herself, she encouraged her grandchildren to carry on her love of dancing by taking ballroom dance classes.

Mary also loved to travel and cherished memories of her trips to the Bahamas, Aruba, and Mexico, as well as visits to her favorite destination, visiting her family in Lindsay, Ontario.

Mary will be remembered for her sense of humor, feisty independence, and love of all sweet treats- always having a fridge stocked with ice cream, Hershey’s chocolate bars and cookies.

Mary is survived by her children, Kathleen (John) Crowley, Stephen King, Theresa Ginsburg, and Paula Monnett; her grandchildren, Charles Desandro, Christina (David) Krempec, Kevin (Breanna) Desandro, Clarissa (Mark) Lapinski, Nicholas Desandro, Philip (Emily) Desandro, Martin Crowley, Aaron Crowley, Sarah Piotrowski, Erron Stark, Samantha Stark, Ryan (Katherine) Harvey, Andrew (Katie) Monnett, Cassidy Monnett and Alex (Samara) Monnett; as well as 35 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides, and entire team at Otterbein Perrysburg for the kindness and care they provided to Mary.

Funeral arrangements are private, and Mary will be laid to rest in Wapakoneta, Ohio at a later date. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mary, are asked to consider the Alzheimer’s Association of Northwest Ohio.
