Martin Matthew Braun, 64, died on Sunday, April 23, 2017. He was born on November 11, 1952, in Berea, Ohio, the second child of Raymond and Jean Braun. Martin was baptized into Christ's death and resurrection at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Berea. Martin married his high school sweetheart Deborah Culpepper of Cleveland, Ohio, on July 21, 1973, and moved to Toledo where they raised two sons, cared for twenty-two foster children, and were active in Lutheran congregations. Martin served the Church in many capacities including congregational president, elder, Scripture study leader, and was active in the movement to start and support Lutheran schools. Martin loved playing and listening to music. He was a member of church choirs since high school, served as choir director, and enjoyed playing Dixieland music. Martin graduated summa cum laude from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and was a professional engineer for over forty years. Most recently he was the Vice President at Design Engineers & Consulting Associates, Inc. Martin is survived by his beloved wife of forty-three years, Deborah (Culpepper); sons Matthew (Julia) Braun and Nathaniel (Regan) Braun; grandchildren Annabel Braun, Isaiah Braun, and Ezekiel Braun. He is also survived by his brother, Theodore (Patricia); sister, Theresa (Jim); their children, and eleven loving godchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends may visit at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., Toledo, Ohio, on Tuesday, April 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 13101 Five Point Road, Perrysburg, Ohio, with the Reverend John Rutz officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Perrysburg, Ohio, or Lutheran West, Rocky River, Ohio.
