In Memory of
Margaret A. Gansmiller
Margaret A. Gansmiller, age 95, of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away on March 25, 2026 at Grand Living Park (formerly Oakmonte) Assisted Living. She was born on May 6, 1930, in Portageville, Missouri to Charles and Georgia (Powell) Fugate and married the love of her life, Norman, on September 25, 1948. She lived most of her life in Toledo, Ohio before moving to Florida in 2017 to be near her daughter.
Margaret retired in 1989 after 20 years with the Medical College of Ohio’s Department of Neurology. She was a role model for her children, especially with her work ethic. She provided behind the scenes support so that husband Norman could earn three education degrees. Her tremendous organizational and typing skills, plus her passion for correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling, were great assets at both work and home. She loved reading the newspaper, especially the business section, and clipped articles for her family and friends. A true confidante, she held many long conversations with those closest to her.
Marge spent countless hours reading to her grandchildren, playing with them, and supporting their education, sports, hobbies, and careers. No matter what the emergency, she could resolve it, in part because “Grandma’s purse had everything.” She developed close friendships at the former Bally’s Fitness, which she affectionately called “the sweat box.” A great correspondent, she sent the perfect cards and notes because “You have to work at keeping friendships.”
Margaret is preceded in death by her daughter Cindy Gansmiller Wade in 1983 and her husband of 66 years, Norman, in 2014.
She is survived by son Stephen (Julie Durham) Gansmiller, daughter Nancy (Ed) Howenstein, grandchildren Alison Wade, Ryan Lieber, Andrea Lieber, Tammy McInerney, Matthew Howenstein, and Kimberly (Mitchell Miller) Howenstein; great-grandchildren William Stokes, James Harle, Venus McInerney, and Eloise Miller; sister-in-law Patricia Stack; nieces Anita Huckla, Bill (Kathy) Beelman, and Becky (Kurt) Gholden.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 2 at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo. Interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park will be private.
In remembrance of Margaret, the family asks that you take a friend to lunch or dinner and tell them things we often think of only after someone is gone. A memorial donation could also be made to a charity of choice.
