Lela Baker went home to her Heavenly Father on December 14, 2025 at the age of 101 just weeks before her 102 birthday.
Lela was born to parents George and Amanda Brown on February 5, 1924 in Judsonia Arkansas. As a child, Lela was the second oldest of nine children where she grew up on a farm raising produce to take to market on a horse and wagon before street lights, in-home electricity, running water or air conditioning.
Lela met husband Lt. Kenneth A. Baker, in California, during WWII while working in the shipyards. After the war they married, moved to Ohio, and had 5 children:
Preceding her in death are her husband, parents, all her sisters and brothers, and daughter Cynthia Susan (Sue) Klem, daughter in-law Shirley Baker, son-in laws; Ernest Bernath and John McGrane.
She is survived by following family members daughters; Dianne Bernath, Nitja McGrane, Renata McHugh and son Kenneth Baker Jr., 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother; Lela also loved her grandchildren, family and friends, sewing was her passion. She loved her flower and vegetable gardening, cooking, baking, canning and reading. She also had a soft spot for all animals. Throughout her entire life she held an unwavering faith in God which she shared with those who surrounded her. *
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., from 11 AM- 1 PM. Funeral services will begin at 1 PM and will be followed by interment at Roth Cemetery in Monclova, OH. The family would like to thank Hospice of NW Ohio and especially Damien Arnold for all of their care and compassion.
