In 1991 she went to work for Swan Creek Retirement Village. She started as a server and worked her way up to hostess and event planner for the residents, as well as working as a health aide in the Health Care Center. Karen had a passion for the elderly, giving them compassionate care and honoring their dignity for their remaining years. She started a tradition of having a New Year’s Eve Party for the residents, which continues to this day. Karen and her husband Dave called Bingo every Friday evening for the residents to enjoy. Karen is survived, by her husband of 50 years, David and her son Davren (Donna) Zbierajewski, of Massachusetts; and grandchildren Anthony, Alex, Jake and Shane. A memorial service will be held at the Reed Chapel at Ohio Living Swan Creek Village, 5916 Cresthaven Lane, Toledo, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28th. A reception and lunch will follow. Please consider memorial contributions to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Shriner’s Children Hospitals.
