John Norris Eggert (80) peacefully departed to his heavenly home on May 10, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in Toledo in 1944 to Norris and Gertrude Eggert. He graduated from Libbey High School in 1962 and from the University of Toledo (UT) in 1966. Upon earning his Masters in Engineering from UT (1968), John began what became a 30+ year journey with Libbey Owens Ford (Pilkington) working in Toledo, Lexington, KY and Fishers, IN, achieving a Professional Engineers certification along the way.
John married his bride of nearly 58 years, Cheryl (Fahle) Eggert in 1967 – and they enjoyed a fantastic journey of child-rearing, grandparenting, travelling and laughing with incredible friends; some of more than a half century.
John was tremendously proud of his family and was an unbelievable and dedicated father and grandfather. He never missed a concert, a game, a homework challenge or a chance to play games and joke around. Blessed with the carpentry equivalent of a green-thumb, John enjoyed wood-working throughout his life. He and Cheryl applied those talents to projects small and large; from building doll furniture and toy trucks for their grandchildren to finishing basements and reenvisioning ceilings in their home.
Post-retirement, John poured considerable energy and passion into the administration and finances of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, his homeowners association and even dabbled in amateur editorial journalism – which the Blade published only electronically – irritating him greatly.
John is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, daughter Michelle, son Brian (Stephanie), grandchildren Heidi & Gretchen Gasser and Isabelle & John Eggert, his sister Jean (Don) Mold (and their wonderful family) and a plethora of amazing friends.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 28th, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1825 Glendale Ave, Toledo. The family will receive guests from 10:30 to noon, services at noon, with lunch reception immediately following the service at the Church.
