Gerald C. Reiter (Jerry), aged 96, passed away on April 10, 2026 at Elizabeth Scott Care Center in Maumee, Ohio.
Born February 2, 1930, Jerry graduated from Edward Drummond Libbey High School in 1948. He entered the apprentice program for bricklayers immediately after high school and was a proud member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (Local 3 Toledo) for more than 75 years. He helped build some of the landmark buildings in and around Toledo including The Toledo Hospital, Epworth United Methodist Church and many others before laying fire brick at Surface Combustion in the later years of his career.
Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Laura Fay Diestel in 1951 and they were married for 55 years before her passing in 2006. Jerry is survived by his two daughters, Pamela Ciepichal (Michael) of Belmont, North Carolina and Vickie Wessendorf (Richard) of Waterville, Ohio. He is also survived by grandchildren Kathryn Wessendorf, Benjamin Wessendorf (Jessica), Ryan Stoner and Brett Stoner (Alexis), great-grandchildren Samuel Stoner and Sydney Stoner and sister Nancy Myers.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Leona Reiter and Aloysius Geisler and Frank Reiter, who adopted him as a child, as well as brothers John and James Geisler and sisters Sue Barnes and Jane Sobb.
Services will be private.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who cared for Jerry over his time at Elizabeth Scott. We will be forever grateful for your kindness while caring for our loved one.
