It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Frederic C. Scholl, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Fredric departed this world peacefully at home on May 25, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by the love of his cherished wife and immediate family members.
Frederic was born on May 16, 1930, in Monroe, Michigan, to Irving Scholl and Lucelia Gertz. He grew up in a home filled with love and laughter alongside his brother Robert and sisters Margaret, Marilyn, and Nancy. Fredric was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his beloved daughter Rebecca Scholl, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and love.
A proud alumnus of Monroe High School, Frederic graduated in 1948. His early years were marked by a passion for life and an unwavering dedication to his country. He served with honor in the U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant, and was stationed on the frontlines in Korea from 1950 to 1952. Upon returning home, he pursued his education at barber school, earning his barber license in the 1950s.
Frederic's career was a testament to his adaptability and work ethic. After working at the Lay-Z-Boy Chair Company, he embraced a new chapter as a barber. When changing trends in hair care presented new challenges, he transitioned to a fulfilling career with Jeep, where he worked until his retirement in 1990.
On September 29, 1950, Frederic married the love of his life, Darlene L. Keinsley. Their remarkable journey of 75 years together stands as a testament to their enduring love and commitment. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their daughter Rebecca Scholl and son Gregory Scholl. Frederic's legacy continues through his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Frederic's life was rich with friendships and community involvement. As an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry, he was dedicated to serving others. His hobbies included square dancing, bowling, and participating in a monthly card club with friends. His joy for life was contagious, and he shared it generously with his grandchildren, teaching them card games and taking them on memorable summer vacations.
Known for his compassion, kindness, and a joking manner, Frederic had an infectious smile that could light up any room. His joy in performing magic tricks and telling jokes brought laughter to those around him. He was light-hearted yet firm when needed, embodying a balance of warmth and strength.
Frederic is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene; his son, Gregory Scholl (Pamela); his grandson, Phillip Scholl; his granddaughter, Jessica Balkovec (Steven); and his great-grandsons, Matthew Toole Jr, Evan Balkovec, and Merlin Scholl. He also leaves behind nieces Lisa, Jan, Barb, and Pam, nephews Paul, Dan, Tim, David, Gray, Dale David, and extended family.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Waterford at Levis Commons and Care 360 Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
Rest in peace, dear Frederic. Your love and light will continue to guide us until we meet again.
In Frederic's own words, "I love you, Darlene."
A service to honor Frederic's life will be held on June 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4560 Glendale Ave, Toledo, OH 43614.
