Clarence A. Didion

November 17, 1928 — August 28, 2022

Clarence A. Didion died at his home on August 28, 2022. He was born November 17, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois to Sylvester J. Didion and Edna A. (Clement). Clarence was raised in Toledo, Ohio and lived most of his life on Langdon Street.

He attended Immaculate Conception Church. His brother Richard fondly remembers Clarence mentoring both brothers (Richard and Ralph) on the teachings of the Catholic religion.

Clarence proudly served two years in the US Army during the Korean War. He was wounded in Korea by a hand grenade that left him with pieces of shrapnel that could never be removed. Sixty years later, February 16, 2022, Rep Marcy Kaptur awarded him the Purple Heart. This was one of his proudest moments in life. Thanks to his friend Cindy, who worked hard to make it happen.

He married Mary “Donna” Brunner in 1955 and their son Jerry was born in 1956. He later divorced and married Mary V. Schwartz in 1963.

He worked at The Auto-Lite, Marathon Gas Station, and retired from South End Auto Parts. After retirement he worked part time at Meijer’s grocery/department store.

He loved riding his motor cycle and enjoyed buying and trading for new ones. A month before he became ill, he and Cindy rode the motorcycle to Point Place. He was looking forward to their next road trip to Grand Rapids, Ohio. He also dreamed of taking a road trip to Sturgis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary, son Jerry, and brother Ralph.

He is survived by his step-daughter Carol Smith of Casper, Wyoming; daughter-in-law Karen of Blair, Nebraska; brother Richard of Austin, Texas; and grandson Andrew of Blair, Nebraska, along with many nieces and nephews. Not to forget, his loyal dog Rebel.
