Betty Jane Schmidt

BETTY JANE SCHMIDT went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 27th. She was born on February 17th 1918 to Edward and Nelle Myers in Elyria OH. She married Rowland Schmidt and was a homemaker and loving mother to their two daughters. During their school years she was very active as a volunteer. Later in life she was a housekeeper for many families, a cancer survivor and a chairman for the Cancer Society. She was a lover of all things strawberry, a hopeless romantic and a lifelong fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. She had a fierce and protective love for her family and Thursdays became "Grandma Betty day" with her grandchildren. She made everyone feel like the most important person in the world and made friends every where she went. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Shirley Sallie and son-in-law John Stevenson. Left behind to cherish her memory are daughters Carol (Jim) Flenner and Pat Stevenson and her grandchildren Lisa (Eric) Gambrell, Amy (Don) Loucks, Melissa (James) Urban and John (Joie) Stevenson. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren: Larissa, Anthony, Alexis, Kyle, Elizabeth, Anna, Jimmy, Miranda, Leah, Elise and Johnny. The family would like to especially thank the caregivers from Christian Home and Amea, who treated Betty like their own family member in the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cherry Street Mission or the Pregnancy Center. Visitation will be held at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, on Friday April 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, with the funeral service to begin at noon. Burial will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Those planning on attending the visitation and services are required to wear a facial covering and follow social distancing guidelines.
