Alan Charles Beckman

Alan C Beckman, 64, of Toledo, Ohio lost his fight to cancer on January 15, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. Alan was born on May 3, 1956 in Cherokee, Iowa to Carl W Beckman, Sr. and Charlotte (Wolf) Beckman. He was named after his paternal grandfather Charles and was the youngest of 3 children. His family moved to Toledo in 1960 when his father, a Presbyterian Minister, had accepted a position to be the pastor of the former Westminster Presbyterian Church in South Toledo. Alan attended Bowsher High School where he graduated in 1974 and attended some college courses at The University of Toledo. Ultimately, he would be known as the “window washing guy” for 25 years of his life, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He had always been a people person, so this line of work was perfect for him. Alan was diagnosed with multiple forms of stage four cancer in July 2020. He chose in-home Hospice Care as his primary form of healthcare after receiving a terminal diagnosis. He is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his girlfriend-Carol Thanasiu, daughter-Ashley (Beckman) Abraham, Son-in-law-Michael Abraham, Granddaughter-Adriana Abraham, Sister-Mary O’Keefe, brother-Carl Beckman Jr, and Carol’s children-Nick, Carol, and Richard. In his last days, he shared with his daughter how much he enjoyed being a father. He talked about caring for two boys (her brothers) that were not his own but that he loved them very much. He shared how proud he was to have a daughter and that he made sure her initials spelled his nickname “AL B.” He had his flaws and was not perfect, but the family is asking that we remember Alan as a hard-working, reliable, caring, forgiving, friendly, and funny person who loved to do voice impersonations of Rocky, Bullwinkle, and Popeye. Visitation for Alan will be held on Friday January 22 from 2-6 PM at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave.. Funeral services will then begin at 6 PM. Interment will be private.
